Diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes in nuclear medicine: Determination of gamma-ray transmission factors and safety competencies of high-dense and transparent glassy shields

Abstract We present the findings of an extensive examination on newly designed CdO-rich and transparent glass shields for nuclear medicine facilities in lieu traditional unfavorable materials, such as lead concrete. Gamma-ray transmission factors are determined using a variety diagnostic, therapeutic, research radioisotopes, including 67 Ga, 57 Co, 111 In, 201 Tl, 99m Tc, 51 Cr, 131 I, 58 137 Cs, 133 Ba, 60 Co. A general-purpose Monte Carlo code MCNPX (version 2.7.0) is used to determine attenuation parameters different material thicknesses. Next, compared standard concrete shielding material. The results indicate that adding more CdO composition improves overall gamma-ray properties. As result, among heavy glasses developed, C40 sample containing 40% exhibited best absorption properties against all radioisotopes. Furthermore, characteristics this created high-density were shown be better those sample. It can concluded developed may medical radiation fields where radioisotopes examined daily clinical applications.
